Fill dirt is the first thing many properties around Burgaw need. We haul it in by the load in our dump truck. Then we spread and pack it with an excavator or the tracked skid steer. Low spots, settled yards, washed out drives and old pads all take fill. We have been doing this work since 2013. Some loads go in as part of a bigger job. Others go in on their own, for a customer who just needs fill brought to the property.
We haul fill dirt, fill sand, ABC stone, gravel and rip rap rock. Loads go where you want them, and the machines spread them out. Fill sand drains fast, so it works in wet ground and around pipe. If what you really want is a new gravel driveway built and packed, that is a separate job. We also load out extra dirt when a job makes more than the site can hold.
We haul fill dirt and stone to Rocky Point, Hampstead, Surf City and Holly Ridge. We work across Pender, New Hanover, Onslow, Brunswick and Duplin counties. Scheduling is usually within days. The estimate is free and comes from looking at the property. Call (910) 512-9578 and tell us how deep the low spot runs and how wide. We will come see how water moves across the ground, then price the work from there.

Fill dirt and topsoil are not the same material. HomeAdvisor's June 2026 cost guide describes fill dirt as the layer under topsoil, with the organic matter left out. That is why it holds its shape once it is packed. The same guide says topsoil carries organic matter and minerals, and that topsoil settles or erodes over time. It points to sand for damp ground, because sand absorbs moisture and drains well. So the hole gets fill dirt or fill sand. A growing layer, if you want one, belongs on top of that.
ABC stone is the crushed rock and fines mix NCDOT specifies for road base. The fines lock the bigger pieces together once a layer is packed, so it holds weight. We haul it by the load for pads, lanes, parking areas and soft spots that keep rutting. Washed gravel and larger stone go in where water has to run through. Rip rap is broken rock sized to armor a bank or hold the mouth of a pipe. When the real problem is water standing in a ditch, that is ditch shaping and culvert pipe work.
A truckload is not a fixed number. It depends on the truck. The Upfit Insider's March 2026 capacity guide puts a tandem axle dump truck at 10 to 16 cubic yards. It puts a tri axle at 14 to 20 yards, or about 18 to 25 tons. Wet dirt weighs more, so a truck often hits its weight limit before the bed fills up. HomeAdvisor says one cubic yard of soil covers 324 square feet at one inch deep. At six inches deep, that same yard covers about 54 square feet.
Published cost data helps you sanity check a number before you call anyone. HomeAdvisor's June 2026 guide puts fill dirt at about $5 to $30 per cubic yard. It puts topsoil at $12 to $55 and sand at $15 to $40 per yard. For a delivered load of fill dirt, that guide gives a normal range of about $344 to $1,339. Haul distance moves the number, and so does how hard the site is to reach. Shaping a whole lot to drain is priced as lot grading and house pad work.
Ground around here holds water. Flatwoods soils like Leon fine sand and Murville muck are mapped in Pender County. Their seasonal high water table sits within about a foot of the surface. A low spot that looks small in August turns into standing water in February. Hurricane Florence pushed the Northeast Cape Fear River at Burgaw to 25.58 feet, over three feet past the Floyd record. Filling those spots takes dirt placed in layers and packed as it goes. An old pad left after an old trailer is taken down and hauled off gets the same treatment.
Rules touch fill work on this coast, so check before the first load lands. Pender County's Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance counts filling and grading as development. It requires a floodplain development permit before work starts in a Special Flood Hazard Area. NCDEQ's permit directory says a Section 404 permit is required to put fill in waters of the United States. That includes wetlands, and the Army Corps Wilmington District reviews those. Pender County is one of North Carolina's 20 CAMA counties, and CAMA counts filling in an Area of Environmental Concern as development. For the rest of it, read which permits coastal land work needs.
From the first walk of the property to the last pass of the blade, here is exactly how it goes.
Call (910) 512-9578 or send the form. Describe the land, what is on it, and what you want it to become. Photos help.
We meet you on the property, look at the growth, the ground and the access, and talk through the right way to do the job.
The estimate is free and comes from seeing the land. You know the price and the plan before any machine shows up.
The machines show up when the ground is ready, the work gets finished, and the property is left clean and usable.

Great guy to work with. Demoed the trailer and made it all go away.
Absolutely love Steve and his excellent work ethic. We hired him to clear our acre lot in Holly Ridge, demo and haul off an old single wide trailer, bring in fill dirt and make the cleared land look fantastic. He went above and beyond what we expected. He was always on time, returned phone calls or text and he was fair with pricing.
Steve does a great job I’ve been using him for over a decade
