Coastal Brush Mowing handles land clearing, excavation, grading and brush mowing for property owners in Holly Ridge, NC. Most of the new construction in Holly Ridge tracks US 17, the main route between Wilmington and Jacksonville. The old Camp Davis army base beside that highway is now a 700 acre industrial park. In February 2026 the town approved Project Ajax, a 1,500 acre plan for as many as 2,750 homes. Every one of those lots starts the same way, with somebody opening the ground and setting the grade.
Sandy coastal plain soil digs easy when it is dry and turns soft after a hard summer rain. Low spots in the pine flatwoods hold water, so drainage gets set before a pad is shaped. We run excavators, a tracked skid steer and a dump truck, so material leaves on the same trip. Demolition of an old shed or slab fits into the same visit on the property.
Brush comes back fast on this coastal plain ground, and an open field closes in on its own. Hurricane season adds to the mess, with limbs and downed pine piled at the back of a lot. Bush hogging handles the yearly cut on pasture and along fence lines that have gone thick. It is the right call when the land is usable and you plan to keep it cut every year.
Forestry mulching grinds standing brush and small trees into chip that stays right on the ground. The chip works as a mulch layer, which holds sandy soil in place on a bare lot. That matters near Stump Sound and Everett Bay, where runoff from a bare lot reaches shellfish waters. Morris Landing Clean Water Preserve sits on that same sound, with 52 acres and more than 3,000 feet of shoreline.
