Swansboro has been a town since 1783, and it has the yards to prove it. Old lots hold old trees, and when one comes down the stump usually stays behind for years. Grinding turns that stump into chips below grade, so the spot can be sodded or built on. We grind stumps in town, out toward Cedar Point and Hubert, and on the wooded lots between them.
Coastal Brush Mowing is owner operated and has worked this stretch of coast since 2013. The person who takes your call is the one who shows up and runs the machine. Our stump grinding page explains how the service works on a yard or a lot. For a price, call (910) 512-9578 or send a photo of the stump through the contact page.

The historic district in Swansboro went on the National Register in 1990, and the streets show their age. Lots are narrow, fences sit close and a stump often ends up between a house and a driveway. That is a gate width question before it is a grinding question, so we ask for the measurement first. A stump in an open backyard is simple, while one behind a 36 inch gate takes a different setup.
Sandy soil here hides more under a yard than most people expect. Irrigation lines, septic lines and old water pipe run shallow through plenty of these lots. Have the utilities marked before we grind, and point out anything you or a past owner buried. The wheel does not care what is in its path, so knowing the lines saves an expensive repair.
Hurricane Florence dropped more than thirty inches of rain on Swansboro in September 2018. Saturated ground and wind put a lot of pine and oak down across Onslow County that week. Some of those stumps are still sitting where the tree fell, half rotted and covered in brush. A rotted stump grinds faster than a fresh one, though it usually hides a wider root plate.
On a wooded lot the real question is how deep the stump actually needs to go. For grass, four to six inches below grade is enough to lay sod and mow over it. For a slab, a driveway or a shed pad, it has to go deeper and the roots have to come out. Tell us what is going on top and we grind to match it.
More about the service itself is on our Stump Grinding page, and everything we do around town is on the Swansboro service-area page.
