The historic district in Swansboro went on the National Register in 1990, and the streets show their age. Lots are narrow, fences sit close and a stump often ends up between a house and a driveway. That is a gate width question before it is a grinding question, so we ask for the measurement first. A stump in an open backyard is simple, while one behind a 36 inch gate takes a different setup.

On a wooded lot the real question is how deep the stump actually needs to go. For grass, four to six inches below grade is enough to lay sod and mow over it.
