Land Clearing for Surf City Properties

Surf City sits on both sides of the Intracoastal Waterway, so lots here come in two very different shapes. Island lots run small and sandy, wedged tight between houses and driveways that already stand. Mainland parcels off NC 210 and NC 50 run bigger, holding pine and years of heavy underbrush. We clear both kinds of lot, and the Pender County half of Surf City is our home county.

Coastal Brush Mowing is owner operated out of Burgaw and has cleared lots on this coast since 2013. The person who answers your call is the one running the excavator on your lot. Our land clearing page covers how the work runs on any site, from first cut to final haul. For a Surf City lot, call (910) 512-9578 or send the address through the contact page.

Island lots and mainland lots take different work

On the island the job is usually small and tight, with no room to swing a machine wide. Yaupon and volunteer pines crowd the side yard between two houses that are already built. A tracked skid steer fits through that gap, and it floats over soft sand without rutting it. What we cut goes straight into the dump truck, since there is no room on the lot to pile it.

Across the bridge, mainland Surf City lots off NC 210 look nothing like the island side. Those parcels hold real pine timber and low spots that stay wet long after a rain. There we bring the excavator, windrow the material and grub out the root balls. The fixed span bridge that opened in 2018 does not swing open, so we cross on our own schedule.

Teardown lots and storm debris

Surf City more than doubled in population between 2010 and 2020, and building has not slowed. A lot of that is teardown and rebuild, where an old cottage comes down and a taller house goes up. We clear the vegetation, pull the stumps and grade the pad so the builder can set forms. Old shell driveways and buried concrete often turn up once the brush is off the lot.

Hurricane Florence came ashore just south of Surf City in September 2018 and knocked down a lot of trees. Storms since then have left leaning pines, hung limbs and broken tops on lots all over the island. We take that material down, load it out and leave the ground flat enough to mow. Downed pine rots slowly in this sandy soil and holds moisture against anything sitting near it.

Call (910) 512-9578

Do you clear lots on Topsail Island itself, or only the mainland?
Both. Island lots in Surf City are small and hemmed in, so we bring the tracked skid steer and haul material off as we cut. Mainland parcels off NC 210 give us room for the excavator. Tell us the address and we will tell you which setup fits your lot.
Does the Intracoastal Waterway bridge slow down getting equipment to my lot?
It does not. The old swing bridge was replaced in December 2018 with a fixed span sitting 65 feet above the water. It never opens for boats, so we bring the excavator and dump truck across whenever the job calls for it, at any hour of the day.
Can you clear a lot that still has an old cottage standing on it?
We handle the vegetation, stumps and grading side of a teardown lot. Taking the structure down is demolition, which we also do. Call (910) 512-9578 and tell us what is still standing on the lot. We will sort out the order the work needs to happen in.
